Replied by support on topic opc server port number
Classic OPC is based on Microsoft DCOM, all rules for it apply.
Both directions are to be treated the same.
See e.g.www.opcti.com/Dictionary.aspx?type=2&term=171&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1 or www.verdiem.com/kb/configure-firewall-dcom-ports .

Dear Friends,
I new to OPC development.I want some communication port information on OPC Client and client.
I am using a classic client library for client development.
I am facing some problem communicating from OPC Client to OPC Server when a firewall is placing in between OPC SERVER and OPC Client.
I have some general queries on both OPC Server and OPC Client.

OPC Server
1)What is the communication protocol i.e TCP or UDP?
2)What is the port number for OPC Server side i.e TCP or UDP port number ?
3)Whether OPC server have a fixed port number or variable port number? If variable port number then how the client knows which port number it has to connect?

OPC Client
1)What is the communication protocol i.e TCP or UDP?
2)What is the port number for OPC Client side i.e TCP or UDP port number ?
3)Whether client have it own port number ? If yes what is the importance ?

Kindly help me .Thanks
